Doo dee dooo (twiddling thumbs...)

Been getting antsy. I suppose a true taper may not be all that necessary for a 5k in which I don't expect to get anywhere close to a PR, but I want to feel fresh for tomorrow's race. Yesterday, I did three sets of decline (feet on a chair) pushups. Today, I'll mess around with some dumbbells (Yikes. I guess that could be interpreted in a couple of ways) and maybe take a walk. It's been 5 years since I've run a road race. Shortly after that, I became chronically injured and figured that my running career was over for good. Tomorrow's race is pretty special to me just for that reason. I'd love to run well, but (as hokey as this sounds) just running it is a victory. I've learned to not take the ability to run for granted. Even though it could all come crashing down eventually, I'm loving every minute of every run this year! Good luck to everyone running a race this weekend!

  2. Good luck on your race tomorrow! And, thank you for sharing your journey back to running and racing from injury-land. I'm in a similar place with my recovery from plantar faciitis (left) and hip bursitis (rt). It's frustrating to say the least and I miss my running pals. So, tomorrow I'm volunteering at our local running club and then going for a road ride so I can at least feel a part of our friendly little running community here while I can't run, and still get a workout in. Happy Trails! :)

  3. Thanks Tim and Rockett! I've never volunteered at races before, but I'm determined to do so this year. I hope you both recover fully and get back out there running healty!

  4. First time in 5 years? Well, then I understand your race nerves. I was sitting here wondering why the heck you were so nervous about a 5k and then I got to the part about not racing in 5 years.

Use those race nerves to your advantage! Good luck, and have fun.

  5. Hehe! Actually, I'm not all that nervous about the race itself. I'm just having a hard time NOT running much this week. I'm itching to get out there and test myself for the first time in a long time! It'll be fun, no matter how I run. Thanks!
